Since 1987 High Doctor Pasture Caravan Park has remained a rural ‘Hidden Gem’ in County Durham, where everyone can slow down and forget the fast pace of modern living.
Wildlife seen in the Park and on the adjoining stream include mallard ducks, deer, rabbits, wild birds such as pigeons, woodpeckers and pheasants and their chicks.
A gentle walk into the scenic village of Wolsingham accesses local shops including a Spar for groceries, chemist, cashpoint, doctor’s surgery, bakery, plus cafes, pubs, an Italian restaurant and local Churches. The village also has a library, large recreation ground, sports hall and indoor heated swimming pool.
There are many wonderful scenic country walks from the Caravan Park to explore Weardale www.discoverweardale.com and its villages, including around the local beautiful Tunstall Reservoir.
The market town of Stanhope is nearby with an assortment of shops and attractions including the Durham Dales Centre www.durhamdalescentre.co.uk.
Auckland Castle at Bishop Auckland, hosting KYNREN (www.elevenarches.org) is a 15 minute drive.

It is 45 minutes to the ‘bright lights’ of Newcastle and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music theglasshouseicm.org/ and only a half hour drive into the City of Durham where the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral www.durhamcathedral.co.uk and Durham Castle dominate the skyline and the River Wear flows round the peninsula of this magnificent historic university city.
